Today I made the most difficult decision of my life, and resigned as About.com Guide to Exotic Pets. I've always interested in conservation issues, and interest that has intensified in recent years. I decided that it was time to steer my life in a new direction so this year I began studying for my Master's degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Management. Juggling both school and work has been a challenge for me, and knowing that pursuing a career in conservation is my priority now, I made the difficult decision to leave About.com after eleven years.
Returning to school has been both exhilarating and completely overwhelming -- I haven't been in school for over 15 years, and my background is not in ecology, so it has been challenging, to say the least. Halfway through my first year I am already way behind, but sure that I have made the right choice in following my passion.
This blog was born of a desire to learn more about the latest developments in biodiversity conservation by writing about related news and issues. Welcome to Saving Biodiversity!

Hey Lianne-
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best in this new direction. Life is short. Following your heart is the best thing to do. :)
Thanks for starting this blog and being on Twitter. I'll be in touch.
I will be a little lonely without my ExoticPets friend and expert, but I posted about this postition (and a fond farewell to you) here:
My AboutVetMed blog.
I wish you all the best!
-Janet
Hi Lianne,
ReplyDeleteThanks to Janet, I found this blog. I had a feeling that your Masters degree studies were related to conservation and/or ecology, and I'm particularly excited that your interest leans toward marine conservation.
I'm sure you must know that you'll have a whole bunch of former About.com colleagues following your future successes.
Like Janet, I will miss our old "Three Petsketeers" group, but I know we'll all stay in touch.
Like Janet said,
All the Best! You really deserve it.

LOL Franny - "Three Petsketeers" - so true! We know where to find you, Lianne...!

PS I used OpenID to log in, but that link is odd. My main site: VetMedicine.about.com

ReplyDeleteThree Petsketeers, love it :)
I miss working with you guys!
